Series
Background
The year is 2396 -
eight years following a devastating war with the Romulan
Star Empire, at a time when the Federation is crippled
and desperate. Both the Federation and Starfleet Command
is lead mostly by power-hungry and corrupt officials.
Alien worlds are leaving the Federation left and right,
and the Federation itself is fracturing into separate
factions, each with their own objectives and visions.
Most of these factions are loyal to the
Newsi Empire, and many of
them have even joined the Newsi. After taking severe
losses from the Romulan War, and the Dominion War prior,
the Federation can do little about the renegades.
Fearing another
war, most of the Federation supports unification with
the Newsi, who's growing strength signifies increased
security and stability in the Federation. The Newsi's
biggest opposition comes from the crew of the
USS Marauder, lead by
Captain Randy Hoffman,
a life-long enemy to the Newsi leader,
Travis Steffen.
Over the years,
the crew of the Marauder has found themselves many
enemies in the Federation, especially
Wendy Hyleberg,
Chief of Starfleet Command, and Senator
Jacob Mason, who
is a leading contender to become the next president of
the Federation. From the beginning, Hyleberg and Mason
have publicly challenged Hoffman and his rapid
progression to captain the Marauder. When the first
Marauder was destroyed only three months after Hoffman
assumed command, their concerned seemed justified. The
Marauder-A was
destroyed five years later, and Hoffman's ability to
command was once again heavily debated. One of the
Hoffman's only supporters is the current president of
the Federation,
Peter
Claigh, who's support of Hoffman and position on
the Newsi threat is weakening his chances for
re-election. With Claigh's support, Hoffman assumed
command of the
Marauder-B in 2396, against Hyleberg's wishes.
After months of
delays from technical difficulties onboard the prototype
class of ship, the Marauder finally launched later that
year. It's first mission was to investigate an uprising
on a planet called Ashir, believed to have been
orchestrated by
Admiral Charles Bjold of the Fifth Fleet. If
these rumors are true, it will be the first time a
Starfleet officer had become involved in a planet's
revolution against the Federation.
