Spiritual leader of Bajor at the time of the Cardassian
withdrawal. Opaka was the Kai who recognized Sisko as the
Emissary to the Prophets and knew he was important to the
Bajoran people.Opaka died
when her shuttle crash landed on a planet where the inhabitants
continued to fight to the death, but would never die ("Battle
Lines"). The planet brought her back to life, but she was forced
to remain behind because otherwise she would die once she left
the planet.
Even after death, Opaka continued
to appear to Sisko in visions and orb experiences to help guide
Sisko on the right path.
Opaka's son was killed at the
Kendra Valley Massacre with 42 other Bajoran freedom fighters
when they were ambushed and killed by Cardassians ("The
Collaborator").
